FALLS CHURCH, VA - Political outsider, successful business leader, and Republican nominee for governor Glenn Youngkin released the following statement regarding the Nixon Peabody Report commissioned by the McAuliffe-Northam Administration to whitewash their parole board scandal:
“If Terry McAuliffe and Ralph Northam had hoped they would be absolved by this $250,000 taxpayer-funded report, they were wrong. Their effort to retaliate against the investigators who exposed the McAuliffe-Northam parole board’s wrongdoing makes this sad scandal look even worse. Not only did Attorney General Mark Herring’s office edit this partisan report, but Terry McAuliffe’s handpicked parole board chair, Adrienne Bennett, refused to cooperate with the investigation, and his rogue parole board put up roadblocks at every turn. They may think they should be above the law, but nothing can cover up the damning emails we have seen and Terry McAuliffe’s disastrous record of supporting and condoning parole for violent criminals with no regard for the victims or their families.
“Let’s be clear, Terry McAuliffe’s failed policies have had terrible consequences for Virginians. Virginia’s murder rate increased 43% when he was governor, and now he plans to demoralize and defund the police by exposing them to lawsuits and bankruptcy just for doing their jobs. Terry McAuliffe will not prioritize public safety, but I will work every day to ensure all Virginians feel safe and secure in their communities. When I’m governor, we will put an end to this chaos started by Terry McAuliffe, replace the parole board, support law enforcement, and restore common sense and respect for victims to the parole process."
