Conservative momentum builds behind Youngkin in contest’s home stretch
FALLS CHURCH, VA – Conservative Republican business leader and candidate for Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin handily won the straw poll conducted at the conclusion of last night’s Virginia Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Forum hosted by the College Republicans of Liberty University in Lynchburg.
Out of 135 votes cast in the straw poll, Youngkin earned nearly 50% of the vote, with his nearest competitor garnering only half of that total and Pete Snyder placing a distant third.
“The conservative momentum we are seeing for my campaign in the home stretch of this contest is just incredible,” said Youngkin. “We’ve registered more delegates to vote than any other campaign, and Republicans are coalescing behind me because they know I am the only conservative in this race who can defeat Terry McAuliffe in November and stop the terrible policies coming out of Democrat-controlled Richmond. With a strong Republican ticket of winners, our party can win statewide for the first time in over a decade and rebuild Virginia into the best place in America to live, work, and raise a family. I’m grateful to the Liberty CRs for hosting this forum and look forward to talking with more delegates as we march to victory on May 8.”
Youngkin’s straw poll victory comes after last week’s strong endorsement from the conservative group Middle Resolution, which highlighted the fact that Youngkin is the conservative candidate best positioned to defeat the Democrat machine in November.
