Driven by faith and call to serve, homegrown Virginian vows to be a “new kind of leader”
FALLS CHURCH, VA – Conservative business leader Glenn Youngkin released the following statement announcing his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Virginia Governor:
“I’m running for governor because I believe we must rebuild and reimagine Virginia’s future and make it the best place in America to live, work, and raise a family. As a homegrown Virginian, I can no longer sit on the sidelines and watch career politicians and insiders in Richmond turn our Commonwealth into California or New York – a place where the cost of living for families is too high and the opportunities for all Virginians to get ahead are too few.
“I’m not a politician, and I certainly don’t have the 120 years of combined political baggage that my opponents have. They talk a lot about solving problems, but I’ve actually done it. I spent the last 30 years building business, creating jobs, and bringing people together to succeed. Guided by my faith, I will bring that same dedication to serving Virginians.
“In the days ahead I look forward to meeting and talking with folks in every corner of the Commonwealth. I’ll be listening to their concerns and sharing my vision for a new day in Virginia.”
Glenn grew up in Richmond and Virginia Beach. For the last 26 years he has lived with his wife Suzanne in Northern Virginia, where they raised four wonderful children together.
When COVID-19 hit Virginia, Glenn and Suzanne founded the Virginia Ready Initiative, a nonprofit, public-private partnership dedicated to helping Virginians who are out-of-work get the training they need to secure in-demand jobs. To date, roughly 2,000 Virginians have started the journey with VA Ready, preparing for a new career and new life.
Glenn enjoyed coaching multiple youth basketball teams and served as Church Warden at Holy Trinity Church in Northern Virginia.
